Nat Robb

F O U N D E R

Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, Nat first visited the Cayman Islands in 1993, visiting several times year up until 2001 when he sold his Releigh based computer company and ran away to the islands full time. After 8 years as training director for Divetech, Nat opened Indepth Watersports on Grand Cayman in February 2010. He is an instructor trainer for IANTD, TDI / SDI, SSI and RAID, teaching everything from kids programs through the CCR Expedition Trimix. He is also a PADI MSDT and DAN instructor.

Nat has dove all of the Caribbean, Pacific and anywhere else he can find rusty chunk of metal or hole to crawl around in! He loves to travel to faraway places, wreck & cave dive, be outside, cook, ride Harley’s and be with family & friends.

Chris "Nico" Nicholson

I N S T R U C T O R

Originally from Yorkshire, UK. Nico started his diving in the tropical waters of Capernwray. A love for cold water led him to dive Cape Town, Vancouver and Wellington. After getting tired of freezing his nuts off the south pacific and the Caribbean seemed more appealing.

A love for the deep has led to pursue tech diving and is on the path to CCR instruction. Unfortunately, the years out of the UK has not diminished his dry sense humour. Be prepared for terrible briefing jokes.

Just don’t be bringing your sidemount gear if he’s on the boat, or you might be diving with a toaster.

Dan Schofield

I N S T R U C T O R

Originally from the UK, Dan started his dive career working in marine conservation in Thailand.  Since then, he has worked around SE Asia managing dive operations and resorts in the Philippines and Indonesia until making the move to the Caribbean during COVID.

In his free time he seeks out even more diving including wreck exploration in the Great Lakes, fossil hunting on the East coast and most recently running a sailboat’s dive operations for an Atlantic crossing.  He teaches both PADI and SDI courses, is a TDI technical dive guide and an AIDA freediver, recently picking up medals at Cayman’s competition.

When not diving professionally you can usually find him underwater with his cameras taking pictures for citizen science resources.  Dan has a special love for macro critters with nudibranchs being his favourite marine creatures.  He has recently acquired a rebreather and is looking forward to exploring deeper on Cayman’s deep walls.

Ash Hastings

I N S T R U C T O R

Although he grew up in the middle of the UK, Ash moved to Australia at the age of 18 to study Architecture. Whilst there he learned to dive and fell in love with it. He quickly moved through the various certifications until he became an Instructor at the dive center he originally learned to dive with.

From there, Ash has worked in the Dive industry in Fiji, Thailand, UK, Mexico and New Zealand. Before the move to the Cayman Islands, he worked as the lead dive instructor and Medic aboard a 112ft sailing vessel for 4 years where he gained his IYT Yachtmaster qualification, sailed the mediterranean, Caribbean and crossed the Pacific.

Ash has interest and experience in teaching professional dive development, technical decompression and cave diving, hyperbaric medicine and sailing.

Rumy Takova

I N S T R U C T O R

Born and raised in a little country in Europe called Bulgaria.

Worked for many years as graphic designer locked in an office in front of a monitor for long hours until found out the passion of diving and realized that “an office” can be a place you are eager to go every day, and every day is pretty much fun and different than the previous.

Started diving relatively late at the age of 35 in picturesque little Greek island called Antiparos in May 2010 when she did her Open Water followed by Advanced Open Water in September same year at the same lovely spot. The global financial crisis led to decreasing of many jobs in Europe and did her a good favor of making the decision to sign up for 4 months of internship in another Greek island Crete where she worked and completed all courses up to Divemaster. In 2013 she worked a season as a Divemaster in Mallorca, Spain where at the end of the season did her IDC and became an instructor. Enjoyed the lifestyle of a Dive Professional working in different locations like Oman, Maldives, Cyprus, Jordan, Mexico for several years until settled in the Cayman Island in 2016 and lived and worked here ever since.

Juan Perez

I N S T R U C T O R

Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, Juan decided to quit the life he had as a journalist in his country to become a scuba instructor. He got his SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, where he had his first experience working in the diving industry before he moved to the Cayman Islands.

Juan’s favorite animal to watch underwater is the spotted eagle ray and what he enjoys the most while diving is doing bubble rings. That and seeing his students progress.

If Juan is not diving he enjoys art culture, discovering new music, watching sports (specially the English Premier League) and being at home sitting on his couch.

With background experience as Community Manager, you’ll probably see Juan with his cellphone asking you for a picture to post it on the social media of Indepth Watersports.

Kelly Carpenter

I N S T R U C T O R

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Kelly worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the defense contracting industry for a number of years before the travel bug hit, and she moved to Thailand to teach math and robotics. Kelly learned how to dive on a whim and was immediately hooked, soon moving to the Philippines in 2018 to complete her professional and technical dive training.

Kelly bounced around the world teaching diving and managing dive shops before finally settling down in Grand Cayman in 2022. Nowadays you’ll find Kelly and her famous cat ear hood guiding and teaching PADI and SDI/TDI courses from beginner programs all the way up to technical dive courses.

Kelly has a special passion for traveling, reading, birdwatching, and of course, all things scuba diving!

Pierre Lesieur

I N S T R U C T O R

A familiar face in the industry, Pierre has been a dive instructor, boat captain and fishing guide in Grand Cayman, where he was born and raised, for over 10 years.

As a PADI and SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor, with a number of technical certifications, he’s always eager to show divers young and old the exciting underwater world.

Although fishing may be his favorite sport, diving has always been a close second. His dedication to both sports has allowed him to dive 2 of the 3 offshore banks in the Cayman Islands, as well as a popular fish aggregation device north of Grand Cayman.

Although he captains for multiple companies on island, you may just be lucky enough to see Pierre during your next trip on one of our boats.

Cassandra McDowell

I N S T R U C T O R

Being born and raised in Cayman Brac with two dive instructors for parents, it’s no surprise that Cass found her way into the dive industry. During her teenage years, she balanced her time between fishing charters and dive boats, logging countless hours on the water.

After working as a marine educator in Little Cayman for a few months, Cass relocated to Grand Cayman at 18 to further her career in environmental conservation. Now a PADI divemaster and self proclaimed nature nerd, she uses her knowledge of Cayman’s coastal habitats and marine species to inspire people of all ages to explore and protect our captivating natural environment.
